The Welsh are serious about preserving steam with several lines in operation (all 1' 11 3/4" gauge). The lines are being expanded, at least in part utilizing volunteer labor. The trains are in daily use for mostly passenger service.

The Welsh Highland RR in Caernarforn, UK. The gauge is 1 foot, 11 3/4 inches. I photographed in and around the station at the end of the line while awaiting the arrival of the afternoon train. The loco was built in 1958 by Bayer-Garratt.
