The Welsh are serious about preserving steam with several lines in operation (all 1' 11 3/4" gauge). The lines are being expanded, at least in part utilizing volunteer labor. The trains are in daily use for mostly passenger service.

The Welsh Highland RR in Porthmadog, UK. The gauge is 1 foot, 11 3/4 inches. Although not apparent on the builder's plate, the loco was built in 1995 according to what the crew told Kurt!
